Lighting the Path to Rural Transformation: ASSEFA Sangamam 2025 Begins

The ASSEFA Sangamam 2025 conference was held at Shanthigram village in Natham, the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, India from 28 Sept 2025 and 30 Sept 2025. The ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp was done by Sri J. Chandrapaul, Chairman of ASSEFA.

This significant gathering brought together stakeholders to reflect on the progress of Community Organisations promoted by ASSEFA, revisit the ideals of the second phase of the Bhoodan Movement, and lay out a roadmap for the years ahead.

The inaugural session saw active participation from senior functionaries representing over 50 organisations across Tamil Nadu, all committed to improving the lives of rural women, youth, and farmers. The spirit of collaboration and shared purpose is evident.

Sri S. Pandian ji, a respected Gandhian and veteran social worker, graced the event and blessed the participants. In his address, he underscored the enduring relevance of grassroots movements in building a just, inclusive, and sustainable rural society.

The event has been thoughtfully organised under the leadership of Sri S. Loganathan ji, Executive Director of ASSEFA. He expressed confidence that the sessions over the next two days would result in actionable outcomes to further strengthen community-led development efforts.

On the second day of ASSEFA Sangamam which took place on September 29, 2025, with the commencement of a compelling and insightful debate on the theme of ASSEFA Education and its broader implications for the future

Over 500 participants—including teachers, parents, and community members joined this session —demonstrating a shared commitment to shaping a meaningful and transformative educational journey for the younger generation.

The debate explored six vital dimensions of education namely:-

  1. How ASSEFA Education Differs from Regular Education Programs
  2. Education as a Foundation for the Students’ Future
  3. The Crucial Role of Parents in Their Children’s Education
  4. Education for Social Development.
  5. Interlinking Education and Healthcare
  6. The Need for Multidisciplinary Education


With educators from various ASSEFA schools leading the conversation, the debate set a vibrant exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives. It has ignited new insights and strengthen the collective vision for ASSEFA’s transformative education model.

On the final day (Day 3) of the ASSEFA Sangamam, team leaders from various sectors emphasized the importance of taking up roles and responsibilities with dedication. In today’s world of uncertainty, experts both from local and international development sectors are increasingly recognizing the significance of ASSEFA’s initiatives.

At a time when global thinkers are searching for alternatives to the exploitative tendencies of both capitalism and socialism, ASSEFA stands out as a living example of a holistic and humane development model. Rooted in the Gandhian and J.C. Kumarappa philosophies, ASSEFA’s approach closely aligns with the UN-recognized concept of Social Solidarity Economy—a framework focused on equity, sustainability, and community well-being.

To mark the occasion, 13 insightful publications were released, showcasing the depth and breadth of ASSEFA’s work:

In the concluding session, Sri J. Chandrapaul, Chairman of ASSEFA, extended his heartfelt congratulations and blessings to all involved. He called upon everyone to carry forward the noble legacy of ASSEFA, ensuring that its transformative work continues to benefit generations to come.
