As a global community of social development advocates and practitioners we operate at a dual level as local actors as well as global movers. We have found consensus in international gathering and through joint statements.
In this context the 2030 agenda is key with 17 development goals (economic, social, environmental and governance) followed by the Doha declaration which affirmed the acceleration of social development goals of the SDGs.
Now the Gambia Zero Draft (2026) seeks to translate the Doha inter-governmental commitments into a Civil Society Framework of Action. Here we apply this framework for practical implementation by social development actors and stakeholders. Among them are CSOs-NGOs, CBOs, faith-based organisations to state a few.
The SDGs vision is in leaving no one behind, the Doha declaration is focused on people-centred approach. Now the Gambia zero draft build from these foundations to six strategic pillars strengthening the Doha declaration with actionable possibilities.
These six are: –
- Poverty eradication & social protection
- Decent work & livelihoods
- Social inclusion & equality
- Access to quality social services
- Climate & crisis resilience
- Governance, financing & accountability
This Gambia Zero Draft (2026) is a civil society enabling framework. It is framed on the basis of “whole-of-society” approach providing support to government leadership and inter-governmental process. There are clear multi-stakeholder follow-up commitments.
A review of the Gambia Zero Draft (2026) is a necessary exercise and all CSO-NGOs are called to review and share their feedback and input prior to the Social Summit in Oct 2026 in Gambia.
