Beyond SDGs 2030: Asian & ASEAN Dialogue

Prof Norichika Kanie (Keio University) posted in LinkedIn stating  “we launched a new initiative on Beyond SDGs – Asian dialogue. The first workshop was held in Malaysia in cooperation with ASEAN Center for Science Diplomacy. Probably this is the first workshop of this theme in a developing world. It was a huge success – we see this an opportunity for the Asian countries to be heard of our vision and action for the future. More will follow until 2030 and BEYOND!”

The ASEAN secretariate posted “Beyond Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 Southeast Asia & ASEAN Level Kick-off Meeting and Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue was held on 20–21 April 2026 in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, co-organised by Keio University, Japan and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT). The event convened around 90 participants, including representatives from ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat, alongside regional and international stakeholders. The programme featured ASEAN–Asia dialogue, high-level panel discussions, and interactive multi-stakeholder sessions exploring future sustainability pathways. The dialogue focuses on future-proofing SDGs and reinforcing a forward-looking, innovative approach to shaping the post-2030 SDG agenda”.

Ahmad Razif Mohamad indicated that “the dialogue underscored the importance of inclusive regional cooperation, stronger youth engagement, and diverse expertise in shaping ASEAN’s forward agenda. Tan Sri Zakri Abdul Hamid emphasised the need for ASEAN to act as an equal partner in the global ecosystem, with shared responsibility for advancing human well-being. Key sessions focused on strategic alignment, emerging challenges, governance, and transformative pathways, supported by multi-stakeholder panels and breakout discussions. The dialogue reinforces ASEAN’s role as an active global contributor, advancing a shift from implementation to transformation in sustainable development. Together, We Make It Happen”.
